07/30/08: I saw this listed as one of the top news items (actually news videos) on Yahoo! today. I didn't click the link. I don't know about you guys, but I don't need to see any exploding deer any time soon.
07/20/08: Last Friday evening I finished reading
"The Number of the Beast" by
Robert Heinlein. The book was given to me by a friend who said she received two copies from whatever book club she was in at the time, and thought I might like it. I think that was back in 1980. And it was not very good. Parts of it were, in fact, pretty bad. It started out pretty good, dragged towards the middle, started to pick up, then crashed and burned by the end. In fact, I had no idea what was going on in the whole final chapter, and couldn't wait to be done with it. When I started to lose interest the first time, I checked the 'net for reviews, and found many which recommended
not reading it. But I pressed on, and can safely say that I'm never going to read this particular book ever again.
So then why in the two days since can I not get the book out of my head. Inexplicably, I actually feel a little sad that I'm done, that I won't have some of these characters to read about any more. Makes no sense, but there you go.
