Stop Twelve - Leaving The Bieniek Family

On Sunday, we slept late, had a nice breakfast (well, more like lunch) and said goodbye to Chris, Laura and Ricky. We had a teriffic time, but there's more of California to see! Before we left, we took a couple pictures of their place, and their new sectional (which folds out to a bed and is really very comfortable).

We took the scenic route, and along the way there were several spots where you could pull over and take pictures of the scenery. I can see why people like to move out here, because it's so beautiful. Not to say that Illinois doesn't have it's scenic spots, but there's not too many places in Illinois where you can get up high enough to take in such a spectacular view. California's full of them!

We stopped in this one area that was full of trees, but if you followed this little path, it led to a small viewing area. The park service put something there to tell something about the area. Unfortunately, they put in flat, on a rock, and under glass. Just the thing for vandals to take advantage of. We couldn't read what it said, but there was this cool little lizard sitting nearby, so I got a picture of him.

I had planned on taking a bunch of pictures and pasting them together to make a panorama, but as I started to do that, I was attacked by an army of flies that seemed determined to fly into my ears! Maybe they were zombie flies and wanted to eat my brain, or maybe they were trying to get out of the sun, but whatever the case, I wound up running back to the car, swatting and swinging all the way. Stephie found this extremely humorous, but fortunately for me was too busy laughing to get a picture of me flailing away like a fool. (Or at least she told me she didn't get a picture. We'll have to wait for the film to be developed.) Luckily, I did get one panorama set done before the attack.

After the fly assault, I decided I had enough of nature and we drove straight through to our next destination: San Simeon, California.
